Rising up and Standing Strong as Filipinos!
“Tough times never
last, but tough people do.” – Robert H.
Schuller. Life was never
easy to begin with, full of obstacles and problems we need to face inorder to
become stronger and become a better person. Have you ever felt as if your
problem was hopeless? Impossible even? Have you ever felt as if you are worth
nothing and you deserve to die? How did you get back up from it? You will
always fall down, tumble, get hurt but what is important that you are able to get
up from it and face your troubles. As of now,we are facing many hardships,
COVID-19, battle with drugs, the upcoming Presidential elections this 2022,and
many more.
We
Filipinos have been through so over the past hundred years or so, from
Lapu-Lapu banishing Ferdinand Magellan during the battle of Mactan, from
defending ourselves from the Spanish, and claiming independence during the
American Era, to now. If we want to move forward towards a resilient
Philippines we must first know the issues that we are facing as of now, since
taking the Presidential seat on June 30, 2016, President Rodrigo Duterte carried
out “War on Drugs” which targets drug dealers, mostly in poor urban areas, and
it has lead to 12,000 deaths of Filipinos and executions were handle by police, milita
groups, and unidentified vigilanties. Unfortunately many innocent lives were
taken from these killings, an example being Oliver Dela Cruz, who was shot to
death when he was playing cards at a friends house, when a group of came
barging in,they interograted him and executed him.The Police had denied
reponsibility to any of it,claiming it was vigilante violence. Due to this
extrajudicial killings, many human right measurement groups have been
protesting against the brutal killings. Environmental issues are also still
present in our country such as pollution, deforestation, climate change and
more. Not only does it affect our environment but it also affects us, people
whose jobs depend on resources from our surroundings, fishermen, farmers,
miners, we can also get sick from the diseases that these environmental issues
cause. Fortunately, the government is making progress on this, for example the
clean up of Manila Bay. There is also Overpopulation and Poverty, these two go
hand and hand poverty leads to overpopulation, due to the lack of resources,
education, and afford the basic necessities, teenage pregnancy also is a factor
on this, young children unable to get the right education to Sex ed, leading to
pregnancy and because of our culture, people turn a blind eye to the lust of
the men, and instead place the blame on the women, which lead us to our next
topic Pedophilia. Pedophilia is where grown men or women have sexual
orientation towards children, which is morally false, Philippines’ age of
consent is 12, one of the youngest in the world, it has been changed to 16
which is still young, nothing much is being done this, because of beliefs and
culture,. Speaking of culture, the Philippines is very Catholic, here, most
people are homophobic,God once said “Love your neighbor” yet what are you
doing? You opress people who aren’t you people call “normal”, your hypocrisy disgusts
me. The Government must do something to fix these problems and the most
troublesome one, COVID-19.
COVID-19,
the new pandemic that has killed millions of people, as a response, Luzon is
placed in Enchanced Community Quarantine (ECQ), because of this many buisnesses
have been affected, ebing closed down and losing most of their profits, thus
being unable to support themselves during this time. The amount of cases
getting worse and worse, and many facilities unable to handle all of the cases,
the ignorance of people and stubborness leading to more cases. The Pandemic has
greatly affected our lives, in terms of our finance, education, and the safety
of our lives. As 2021 is ending, and President Rodrigo Duterte’s run as
President ending in 2022, there are many candidates that for the Presidential
election, to all of the Filipino adults out there, please choose someone who is
fit and able to lead the country, not because of popularity but because of
their ability to lead.
Our
Country has gone through many problems from these past few years, the Brutal
war on drugs, Poverty, Overpopulation, Pedophilia, Homophobia and the Pandemic,
hopefully our future leaders are able to solve these problems in the future,
even if it seems dire, if we are able to go through wars, then we are able to
overcome these.
Because
we are Filipinos, rising up and standing strong!
